The Foundation and its Mission

The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not.

—Greta Thunberg

The Greta Thunberg Foundation works to support sustainability from a holistic perspective, promoting ecological, climatic and social sustainability.

The Foundation was founded in 2019 to create a transparent way of distributing funds from awards, royalties or donations linked to the Foundation's activities and Greta's activism to organisations and movements working for a just and sustainable world. The mission of the Foundation is to work globally for a sustainable climate, a socially sustainable society, a good environment, preservation of biodiversity, human rights and animal rights in the long term. The mission has been shaped to ensure it is aligned with Greta's values.

Where the Money Goes

The Foundation donates funds to support projects and organisations in line with its mission, to support sustainability from a holistic perspective, promoting ecological, climatic and social sustainability.

Any money associated with awards or prizes Greta receives is donated to the Foundation. The Foundation donates all such funds to support causes in line with its mission. As per October 2025, the Foundation has received EUR 1,235,000 in award and prize money and donated EUR 1,235,000 (taking exchange rates and bank transfer fees into account). Below you can find a list of the Foundation's outgoing donations.

Operational costs such as administration, due diligence, accounting, auditing, legal services and taxes, are covered by a part of the received donations and royalties.
